Anderlecht have been left red-faced following the transfer of Ghana youth star Zuberu Sharani to Sparta Prague.
The Belgian giants sent scouts to Ghana to watch the 18-year-old in action on two different occasions but delayed in making a decision.
Anderlecht are still hunted by the missed opportunity to sign Baba Rahman who was at the time also playing for Dreams FC who were then in the third tier of Ghanaian football.
Their nightmare is set to get even more complicated by the news of Sharani’s move to Sparta Prague.
The striker was an instant hit in his debut campaign in the Ghana Premier League where he scored four goals in his first six matches and also winning three MVP awards.
Despite Sharani’s impressive statistics, Anderlecht seem not convinced into taking a gamble on the budding striker.
They however rose from their slumber when they got wind of Sharani’s move to join the Czech giants and made frantic last ditch efforts to make a swoop.
But officials of Dreams FC had already committed to send their priced asset to Sparta which has been good to another Dreams FC product Benjamin Tetteh.
Sharani proved his potential by scoring a brace on the very day his transfer was finalized.
He joins Sparta on an initial one-year loan with the option of making it permanent at the end of the current season.
And judging from the start he has had since arriving in Prague, the loan version of his move is considered almost a non-starter.
