Western Regional Sports Development Officer, Jeffery Kumi Manzan Owusu has revealed that the Essipong Sports Stadium requires a total overhaul to revive the facility.
The 22,000 seater capacity stadium has not host any major sporting event in over two years.
The Essipong Stadium was one of four venues used in the hosting of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
But the poor maintenance culture has left several parts of the stadium in very bad shape.
The tartan tracks, scoreboard, air conditioning system and even some of the stands are in decay.
Speaking on Spice FM, the RSDO said that the stadium now needs a total renovation.
“It is supposed to be a major job since it’s a 22,000 seater capacity, we sometimes do some small touches that is maintenance but it is time for us to do a total one, although, it will cost but it still has to be done,” Owusu said.
“If we have accumulated bigger chunk of maintenance that we should have done within the years, we would have still done it, it is for Western Region also so we have to do it.”
