Esperance de Tunis suffered at the hands of Angolan club Premeiro de Agosto on Tuesday evening in Rades but managed to book their ticket to the 2018 CAF Champions league final.
The Angolans won the first home leg by 1-0.
The Tunisian club will now meet, in the grand finale, either the competition’s greatest Al Ahly or ES Setif of Algeria who will face off tonight in Setif for the second leg of their semifinal tie. The Red Devils won the first home leg 2-0.
Angolan winger Geraldo had put the visitors ahead after only eight minutes into the first half but Youcef Belaili equalized from the spot seven minutes later before centerback Mohamed Yaakoubi made it 2-1 in the 27th minute for the home side.
The Angolans restored their lead when Congolese attacker Bokampo Lompala netted in the 64th minute but the two-times winners of the competition playing in front of a vociferous home crowd scored again ten minutes later to make it 3-2 through Jouini Haythem.
In the end it was forward Badri Anice that slotted home the qualification goal five minutes from time after a massive work by Jouini to win it 4-2 for Esperance de Tunis.
The Angolans would feel hard done by as Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe disallowed what appeared a good goal before Esperance went on to score the winner.
