Al Ahly’s celebrations as champions for the 2016/17 Egyptian League season was sedated on Monday night after striker John Antwi scored a 73rd minute equalizer for Misr El-Maqassa in a 2 – 2 stalemate at the Suez Stadium.
Maqassa trail Ahly by 12 points with four more games to end the season. Ahly had taken a 2 – 0 lead by the hour mark but the deficit was reduced from the spot kick by El Shieky in the 69th minute, before Antwi broke away to net home his 7th league goal of the season for the Fayoum based club.
The 24 year old’s equalizer stunned home fans of his former club who were ready to party the night away for Red’s 39th league triumph.
The former Egyptian goal king has now scored 10 goals in 16 appearances for both Ahly ( in the first round of the league) and Maqassa. He moved from Al Ahly on a short term loan move in December 2016.
