Kwesi Appiah insists he will retain Asamoah Gyan as the captain of the Black Stars.
The 56-year-old made this confirmation at a ceremony to unveil him as coach of Ghana on Tuesday.
Appiah named Asamoah Gyan captain of the Black Stars during his first stint in charge of the side.
But there have been recent calls to have Gyan relinquish his captainship mainly due to his increasing injury situation with both club and country.
Many have clamoured for West Ham forward Andre Ayew to take over the substantive leadership of the team.
But Appiah is resisting these pressures, choosing to stick with Gyan who now plays his club football in the UAE with Al Ahli.
“Nothing has changed. Asamoah Gyan remains captain and Andre Ayew is his assistant. Let’s support them,” he said.
Asamoah Gyan was made substantive captain of the Black Stars in 2012 taking over from John Mensah.
