Public Relations Officer for the National Sports Authority, Charles Amofa has provided an update on the CAF Checklist for the Baba Yara Stadium following its approval for the 2022 World Cup Playoff.
The Baba Yara Stadium was granted a one-match approval to host the 2022 World Cup Playoff between Ghana & Nigeria amidst some conditions that needed to be met before next week Friday’s encounter.
CAF served the GFA and the NSA with an 8-point checklist that included Installation of new international standard, modern and comfortable officials’ benches at pitch level, Adjustment of the floodlight intensity, upgrading the dressing room lockers, and a host of others.
With barely a week to go for the kickoff of the keenly anticipated World Cup playoff, Mr. Amofa provides an update on events happening at the Baba Yara in regards to the NSA’s efforts in meeting the CAF checklist.
“With regards to the conditions CAF gave us, currently our technicians, groundsmen, and consultants are on the grounds working to meet them” – Mr. Amofa told FMIG.
“With regards to the floodlights, the illumination intensity has been increased. We’ve installed additional bulbs. On the dressing room, more lockers have been installed in the dressing room to meet the required number CAF requested. With the reserve bench on the pitch, we’ve procured more benches just as CAF asked us to do.” – Mr. Amofa added.
Mr. Amofa also assured fans and Ghanaians the Baba Yara Stadium will be ready in time for Ghana’s World Cup Playoff tie against Nigeria.
“I can assure Ghanaians that all the things that [CAF] asked of us to do have been worked on and the stadium will be ready for next week’s game” – Mr. Amofa told FMIG.
