Coach Annor Walker has conceded that Accra Great Olympics top striker Maxwell Abbey-Quaye is match rusty and currently struggling for form.

The league’s top scorer has been away on national duty where he joined the Black Stars for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

The young attacker has returned to his club following Ghana’s early exit from the competition about 2 weeks ago.

Abbey-Quaye was rarely used by the erstwhile Ghana Coach Milovan Rajevac while in camp and his club Coach has lamented the effect that has had on the player.

According to him, the player looks a distance away from match fitness and concedes he’s not fared better in his last 2 games against King Faisal and Asante Kotoko.

Speaking after his side’s loss to Kotoko last Friday, the Great Olympics gaffer said “In the Black Stars…he did not play a match there, he only trained. Even against King Faisal before I fielded him, he was not in shape. He was match rusty. But I had to use him because he’s come back and I was expecting him to do better.

“Well he played not to my satisfaction and I had to give him another chance (today) because we’re playing a more experienced team and I think with his experience he could have helped us. That’s why I fielded him. Well I agree with the questioners that he was not at his best,” Annor Walker added.

Maxwell Abbey-Quaye despite leaving the league for the AFCON tournament still leads the top scorers chart on 8 goals.

Fans of Great Olympics will be praying he returns to his old form soon and fire the club to glory.
