The Ghana Football Association President, Kurt E.S Okraku has called for investigations into allegations of bribery involving some referees.
Barely a week ago, it was widely reported in the local media that one Yaw Baako, popularly known as ‘Honourable Aboroso’ has admitted bribing a Ghana Premier League referee to influence a Regional Division two league game.
The said game involved Heman United and Aboi Youngsters, and was played on August 28, 2021. Baako gave Kofi Kyei Andoh, a Ghana Premier League official, 7000 Ghana Cedis to convince Emmanuel Jones, the referee for the fixture to arbitrate affairs in favor of Heman United.
However, hell broke loose when the desired results didn’t occur for Yaw Baako’s Heman United and he decided to bring the matter to public attention after several attempts to retrieve the money paid proved futile.
Speaking on the grounds of congress, the GFA boss Kurt Okraku has called on the association’s General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo and the Referees Committee to look into the matter and determine appropriate sanctions if any person(s) are found guilty.
