The Senior National Football team the Black Stars are likely to be in an embarrassing situation of wearing ‘old’ Puma kits for next month’s international assignments as the new jersey consignment from the kit sponsor has been locked up at the Kotoka International Airport for more than a month.
Following a report by Ghanaweb, FMIG enquiries have also substantiated claims that the Finance Ministry is dragging its feet as regards doing the necessary to ensure the jerseys can be cleared and made ready for use.
Normally, when such packages do arrive, the Ghana FA notifies the Sports Ministry who in turn put in an application for a waiver on the items since they are for the national teams.
This time around, all processes have been followed unless the finance ministry giving the needed approval for the waiver.
Aside the inconvenience this has created, the Sports Ministry and the GFA risk paying more in terms of charges if the situation lingers and is not well addressed.
The inaction of the finance ministry has definitely delayed clearing of the jerseys and puts the Black Stars in danger of not getting new kits for the October World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will face Zimbabwe next month and it will be embarrassing for the players to wear an already used jersey if the current situation isn’t solved.
Other national teams would also have to resort to old kits for their respective assignments if this embarrassing situation isn’t tackled.
