Accra Hearts of Oak skipper Fatawu Mohammed is set to make his debut for the national team after being named a part of the starting XI to face South Africa today.
The full back earned a place in the squad after impressing in the local scene during the 2020/21 season.
The skipper led his side to win the Ghana Premier League for the first time since 2009 and also guided the club to victory in the FA Cup competition, ensuring that the Phobians ended the season on a high note.
Fatawu was unable to make his debut against Ethiopia as the Black Stars won their first game of the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers by a lone goal, thanks to a Mubarak Wakaso goal.
But he will now make his debut, with preferred right back Andy Yiadom being unable to travel as a result of Covid restrictions.
Fatawu’s inclusion is among a number of changes made by Coach CK Akonnor for today’s encounter as his side seeks to make it two out of two in the qualifiers.
Majeed Ashmeru is also expected to make his debut while Jonathan Mensah will be returning to starting lineup of the Black Stars for the first time in two years.
