Former Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed Ghanaians are exhausted from the wait for a fifth AFCON trophy and everyone just wants the Black Stars to win it at next year’s showpiece irrespective of the team’s performance.
The Black Stars will be heading into AFCON 2021 with the huge task of ending their 40-year wait for the most coveted trophy on the continent.
The Black Stars since their last triumph in 1982 have come close on three occasions losing out in 1992, 2010 & 2015 but will be hoping the story will be different in 2022.
Asamoah Gyan, who was a member of the runners-up teams in 2010 and 2015, disclosed Ghanaians are exhausted from the long wait for an opportunity to celebrate an AFCON triumph and would demand nothing but the trophy from the team heading into next year’s competition.
“Nothing at all than to win the cup. Since 2008 we’ve always been in the semi-finals and now I think everyone is tired back home. Everybody wants the cup” – Asamoah Gyan said.
“It doesn’t matter the performance, We just want the cup.”
“We’ve got a young team but We’ll see how it goes because other countries are coming [here] to win as well. So everything won’t depend on us” – Gyan added.
