Asante Kotoko edged past regional rivals AshantiGold SC on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.
The two Ahsnati Region teams locked horns at the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi to battle not just for the three points but territorial bragging rights.
Kotoko went into the game seeking a win to catch Hearts of Oak atop the GPL standings and they made sure of that courtesy a goal from Brazilian player Fabio Gama.
Gama connected with his head from a delightful cross from the left by Patrick Asmah in the 23rd minute to put the Porcupine Warriors ahead.
Try as AshGold did, they failed to restore parity and eventually succumbed to the 1 nil defeat.
Kotoko with this win move level with Hearts of Oak atop the GPL standings on 50 points (after Hearts drew with Great Olympics).
