In a week where the league leaders dropped points to allow Hearts of Oak to close the gap, and the bottom team in the league producing the highest number of goals, there certainly will be a lot to talk about.
But we have picked three of the bunch as the highlights for week 25, featuring Inter Allies’ strive to survive, Hearts of Oak’s determination to topple the league leaders and Aduana Stars’ superior home advantage.
Highlights from week 25
- 5-star Inter Allies striving to illuminate dark path
Inter Allies were the most clinical and lethal team in match week 25, putting five past a sorry Berekum Chelsea side.
Although not expected by many, Inter Allies put in an incredible performance over the weekend to sustain their impressive run in their last few games.
They are yet to taste a defeat in their last three fixtures, having picked seven out of a possible nine in the league.
It is such a record that will give them confidence going into the most important part of the season, and with the points margin as close as ever, they would strive to illuminate their dark path and escape relegation.
2. Phobians on the neck of the Porcupines
Kumasi Asante Kotoko might have gotten some breathing space after week 24, but their inability to replicate that performance means their bitterest rivals are now breathing heavily on their necks.
Mariano Barreto’s side were unable to defeat Liberty Professionals away from home as they had to come from behind to secure a late equalizer in the game.
Accra Hearts of Oak, on the other hand, kept their momentum going as they secured their second consecutive win and clean sheet.
The Phobians followed up their 1-0 win over Bechem United with a 2-0 win over Elmina Sharks under the lights on Sunday.
They still remain in second place but are now just two points behind Kotoko who are currently on 45 points after 25 games.
3. Aduana Stars make it three on the bounce to keep the home soil clean
Following their victory over Medeama in week 25, Aduana Stars remain one of two sides to have won all of their last three games in the league. The other side to have achieved this is Accra Hearts of Oak.
The win over the Tarkwa boys was significant in many ways.
By securing victory in week 25, Aduana Stars are yet to taste defeat on home soil- a record they shared with Medeama and Bechem United until both sides lost that home advantage in week 24.
Aduana Stars are also gathering momentum and putting themselves in a good place to challenge for the title.
They are currently in 6th place and are now just six points behind Kotoko with just nine games left to be played.
What’s next?
The League resumes over the weekend, with results set to have a huge impact on both the title and relegation race this season.
Both Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak will hope to keep their winning run going when they meet Legon Cities and Eleven Wonders respectively.
Inter Allies face Great Olympics who are desperate for a win following two consecutive defeats in the League while Kotoko will be hoping to get one over WAFA at the Len Clay Stadium.
