Ghana has been drawn against defending champions Nigeria in the first round of the 2022 AWCON qualifiers in a latest draw by the Confederation of Africa Football.
The draw, held at CAF Headquarters in Cairo on Monday, will see the two West African giants facing each other in the WAFU Zone B.
The winner of the first-round tie between Nigeria and Ghana will face Niger or Cote d’Ivoire in the second round.
This year’s draw saw a higher representation as 45 member associations entered to take part in the qualifiers.
Morocco, have automatically qualified for the tournament as host thus 44 countries will take part in the qualifiers.
This will be the first edition under the format of 12 teams.
The qualifying series will start during the international window of June 2021 and end before the final tournament in Morocco scheduled from July 2 to 23, 2022.
