Gladson Awako said he was “over the moon” after fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The Great Olympics midfielder marked his debut in Ghana’s 3-1 win over São Tomé in the final Group C game of 2021 AFCON Qualifiers on Thursday.
Awako was introduced at the start of the second half as replacement for Osman Bukari.
The 30-year old was one of four players who were handed their senior debuts for Ghana in a game that was inconsequential to Ghana’s qualification.
Ghana has qualified for a record ninth straight Africa Cup of Nations – finishing first in Group C with 13 points from 6 games, one point ahead of Sudan who beat South Africa 2-0 in Khartoum to finish behind Ghana with 12 points.
Wow!!!🤩 I’ve been dreaming of this day since a little boy! What a feeling. I’d like to thank the manager for giving me this opportunity, and everyone else that’s believed in me and supported me to get to this point in my career. Follow your dreams with heart! 🦅🦅🦅 pic.twitter.com/1NvqjVNE6Q
