Ghana and Gambia will lock horns for the second time at the ongoing CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Mauritania on Monday.
The Black Satellites will face their Gambian counterparts in the first semi final at the Stade Olympique in Nouakchott at 4pm GMT.
The two teams played each other in the group stages of the competition. In the first game, Gambia sealed a 2-1 comeback win over Ghana. The victory secured them an automatic spot in the quarter finals as they finished second, while the Black Satellites finished third and only qualified as one of the best 3rd place teams.
The clash this afternoon presents Ghana with an opportunity to get revenge against their opponents and also book a spot in the finals.
For Gambia, victory will cement their superiority over Ghana in this tournament and also see them make their first final appearance.
ROAD TO THE SEMIS:
Ghana 🇬🇠The Black Satellites landed in the semi finals after overcoming a tough Cameroonian side on penalties in the quarters. They had come from a goal down to level scores at 1-1 in extra time to force the game into penalties.
In the group stages, they thrashed Tanzania 4-0 in their opening match before drawing 0-0 against Morocco and eventually losing to Gambia in a game in which they conceded for the first time in the tournament.
Gambia 🇬🇲 The Gambians finished second in Group C, the final day 2-1 victory over the Ghanaians in Nouadhibou earning them a direct slot into the last eight. Prior, they had lost to Morocco by a solitary goal and drawn 1-1 with Tanzania.
They are the only side to progress to the semi-finals without the need of penalties, having cleanly beaten the Central Africa Republic 3-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott.
