The Head Coach of Ghana’s National U17 male team, Ben Fokuo says he’s impressed with his team’s performance in their goalless drawn game against Morocco, on Thursday.
The Black Starlets faced their Moroccan counterparts in the final leg of a two-leg friendly exercise.
Going into the game, Ghana had lost the first match 2-1 and were keen on getting revenge against their North African opponents.
However the match, which was hosted by the Moroccans ended in a goalless stalemate.
Speaking after the game, Coach Ben Fokuo expressed happiness over how his boys played despite failing to win.
“I couldn’t take the revenge but I am a little happy about the performance this afternoon, because we lost 2-1 against them in the first game,” Coach Fokuo said.
“We went to the drawing board, corrected our mistakes and came back to make sure we got victory,” he added.
“But it couldn’t happen. What I am happy about is that we’ve learnt from what we failed to do in our first match, we did it this afternoon.
“It means the boys have learnt something from the first match. We didn’t concede a goal and they didn’t win. So I am happy about the performance.
Coach Ben Fokuo has also admitted that despite playing well, there are aspects of his team that needs working on.
“We will just go back and work on those apsects of our game like goalscoring. So that in future the boys will give us a more improved performance,” he concluded
The Coach has also delivered a message to the football authorities in Ghana, pleading for more is such exercises to help polish his team.
Ghana failed to qualify for the Africa U-17 championship, an according to Coach Ben Fokuo, playing games like this will help him build a solid team for the country.
“Well most of the boys went to Togo but they were not starters. They watched the matches and observed what we did in Togo that we didn’t qualify. They have been made aware of the mistakes and we try to help correct them during training sessions.
“Now they have come here and proved something too. But we need more of these matches to help prepare a team for the future.
“If this continues, we will get a very good core for the team,” he concluded.
The Black Starlets are expected back in the country during the weekend.
