Asante Kotoko suffered a first leg CAF Champions League defeat at home following 0-1 loss to Al Hilal at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A second half strike from Congolese forward Vinny Kombe Bongonga was enough to give the Sudanase giant a first leg advantage.
The visitors took control of the game at the early stages as the home team struggled to find their feet.
Mohammed Yussif came close the breaking the deadlock but his shot went wide from close range.
Hilal came close again in the 35th minute but Waleed Bekhet shot was saved by Razak Abalora.
After the break, Kotoko lifted their performance and William Opoku’s came close with a good header but Hilal goalkeeper did well to stop it.
Hilal got the breakthrough goal in the 77th minute with Bongoga scoring with a cool finish following a fine pass by Mohammed Ouattara.
Kotoko huffed and puffed in the die embers but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Naby Keita and Ibrahim Osman both came close to scoring but blew the opportunities away.
The return leg is scheduled for Oumdurman on January 5, 2021
