The CAF Champions League match between Asante Kotoko and FC Nouadhibou has been called off following bizarre occurrences at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors were originally set to play their Mauritania counterpart on Saturday December 5, at exactly 3pm GMT.
The game, a second leg clash during the preliminary stage of the competition was delayed for over an hour because of an impasse between the FC Nouadhibou team and the officiating officials.
FMIG checks revealed that the latest Covid-19 test results returned positive cases within the camp of the two teams.
The cases involved 5 players of FC Nouadhibou while Asante Kotoko also recorded a positive case.
Intriguingly, the FC Nouadhibou contingent challenged the authenticity of the test results and refused to isolate the infected players from the rest of the squad.
The impasse needlessly delayed the game for close to an hour and as officials failed to get the visiting team to reason with them considering the situation at hand, Togolese referee Komlanvi Aklassou decided to call off the game.
It is unknown yet what becomes of the game; whether it will be postponed to later date or forfeited with the offending team declared losers.
FMIG can confirm the referees and other officials have left the stadium with both teams doing same.
