Karela United midfielder Umar Bashiru is eager to see the club’s unbeaten home record remain intact as they prepare to face Inter Allies this weekend.
Karela return to their favorite CAM Park at Nzema-Aiyanase for the Match Week 2 clash of the 2020-21 season. This will mark the first time in over a year that they play a league fixture there following the completion of renovation works on the facility.
The works on upgrading the facility to a standard league venue meant the club played the 2019-20 Ghana Premier League season at the Tarkwa Akoon Park where their home form looked patchy.
The club made the CAM Park a fortress as they currently boast an unbeaten record in competitive fixtures at the venue right from their days in the lower tier.
As Inter Allies pay a visit next, Umar Bashiru who joined Karela during the last transfer window says he is keen to help the club maintain that rich home form.
“Its good to maintain the unbeaten record, we hope to continue in an interview,” he told Kumasi-based Silver FM.
The former WAFA and Asante Kotoko midfielder appreciates the role fans play in chalking such a feat. He believes the directive by government for clubs to play matches behind closed doors due to Coronavirus will impact on their home dominance, but he expects his side to soldier on.
“We’ll need the help of the fans, but its unfortunate the fans are not there (to cheer us) because of the virus,” Bashiru told Silver FM.
“But we will try our best to maintain the record,” he assured.
