In-form RB Salzburg star Majeed Ashmeru has been handed a late Ghana call up for the double header AFCON qualifier with Sudan.
Ghana will be hosting Sudan on Thursday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the 3rd game of the 2022 AFCON Qualifier.
The 23-year-old has been excellent for the Austrian giants this season, making huge impact domestically and putting up impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League.
Due to this, he has been added to Akonnor’s squad for the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan.
Ashmeru will be replacing Mubarak Wakaso who will not be available for the first leg of the qualifier due to club engagements.
The former WAFA midfielder has been one of Ghana’s top performers in European top flight football having won the league and Austrian Cup with RB Salzburg last season.
He also won the league on loan with St. Gallen and has been consistent for his side in the UEFA Champions League.
Ashmeru’s inclusion in the squad will be welcoming news for many Ghanaians as his exclusion in the initial squad raised several unanswered questions.
Ghana are already top of the group with 6 points after beating South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe in the initial two games of the qualifiers.
