Controversial ex-Hearts of Oak attacker Bernard Don Bortey has made a shocking allegation against board member of the club Alhaji Akambi.
According to Bortey, Alhaji Alambi is the cause of Hearts of Oak’s downfall and chiefly responsible for the trend of coaches walking in and out of the club rapidly.
This isn’t the first time such a claim has been labelled against the long serving Hearts official with former players, officials and fans all blaming him in the past.
Hearts of Oak have failed to live up to their old glory days when they won both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup in 2000 and 2004 respectively. Along the line, the club also dominated the local league from the late 90’s to the early 2000’s.
However, in recent times, they have yet to win a league title since 2009 and failed to make any meaningful impact in Africa.
Along this stretch Hearts of Oak have had over 20 coaching changes. The latest is Portuguese Coach Jose Manuel Vaz Pinto who left the club barely a month after joining. Bortey believes Akambi is a chief culprit in all these happenings.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Pure FM, Bortey said “The real problem of Hearts Of Oak has been Alhaji Akambi. Akambi is too stubborn and I’m speaking the truth. The inability to keep coaches for long is caused by Akambi”.
