Ghana coach C.K Akonnor has explained his decision to include John Boye in his 23-man squad for next month’s double header against Sudan.
The experienced defender returns to the senior national team for the first time since the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.
Speaking in an interview with Ghana FA TV, Akonnor justified the reason for his selection;
“John Boye is again an old guy; all this is because of the fact that we want immediate solutions and therefore it is needed for us to deal with the experience and those who have been in such surroundings before” he said.
The 33 year old made his debut for the Black Stars on June 22, 2008, against Gabon and has won 68 caps for Ghana so far.
”They have the experience, been around the terrain before and know what it takes to play qualification and so I thought it wise to bring someone who’s doing well in Europe. People have talked about him and I think he deserves that chance and that’s why he’s here to support the team” Akonnor concluded.
Boye has been in terrific form for Ligue 1 side Metz FC in the ongoing campaign.
