Players and staff of Ghana Premier League side, AshantiGold SC are to be tested for COVID-19 starting Friday, August 7, 2020.
In a statement released on its website the Obuasi based side mentioned that they have scheduled testing for players and staff across 3 days.
The playing body will first undertake the exercise on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8. Whiles the entire back room staff would undergo testing on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
The exercise would be conducted by our medical team with the support of Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research and Tropical Medicine (KCCR), the statement revealed.
AshantiGold are readying themselves for a potential return to playing football as well as their future participation in Africa where they play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
MEANWHILE, the club has denied local media reports that some of its players have tested positive for COVID-19.

We would like to emphatically state that, none of our players and officials have tested positive for the novel Corona Virus.
The club’s screening exercise is scheduled to take place this week; results will only be known after players and officials have been tested. All contrary publications should therefore be disregarded and treated with the contempt it deserves.

This decision is necessitated by Management’s objective to prepare the team for a possible resumption of football activities in Ghana.
The screening exercise would be conducted by our medical team with the support of Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research and Tropical Medicine (KCCR).
The club successfully went through FIFA’s Pre-Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA) last month. It is therefore expected that these medical assessment procedures will inform Management’s decision and prepare the team ahead of the new season.
