President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt E.S Okraku has signed a book of condolence in honour of the late Opoku Afriyie, a former striker of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Kurt on Sunday, July 5, 2020, led a powerful Ghana FA delegation to Kumasi to commiserate with the family of the former national goal machine.
Executive Council members Nana Sarfo Oduro, Fred Acheampong, Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, Samuel Aboabire, Security and Safety Committee member, John Ansah, Vision FC President Michael Osekre and coordinator for all the national teams, Michael Tawiah accompanied the President.
The GFA entourage was received by the wife of the late Opoku Afriyie and his kids.
The legendary former Ghanaian footballer died on Sunday, 29th March 2020 after battling illness.
He was a member of Ghana’s 1978 and 1982 Africa Cup of Nations winning squads.
Opoku Afriyie was the top scorer in the Ghana league in 1979 and 1981. After hanging up his boots, Opoku took up roles as Team Manager and Welfare Officer of the Black Stars and Asante Kotoko respectively. He was 65.
