Former Black Stars goal tender Abukari Damba has blamed the neglect of technical personnel as one of the key reasons for the decline of football in the country.
According to Damba investment in the sector is not encouraging. The former Real Tamale United goalkeeper has taken to coaching since hanging his gloves.
Damba, a former goalkeeper’s trainer at Hearts of Oak has urged football administrators to do a lot more to equip technical handlers and standards of football will improve.
“Normally when they talk about performance, it is limited to the main actors who are the players on the pitch. But then we need to understand that players have technical men who lead them, players have coaches,” he said.
“If you say who the players are, the next question we ask is who are the coaches.
“We need to have efficient and effective coaching to have good and attractive coaching. So it is a complete package. And these ones don’t even come in isolation, you need to look at the management aspect of it.
“In terms of management and in terms of the management we are talking about what is the motivation. Are our players paid well, are coaches paid well. And that is the job of the administrators who need to get sponsorship to keep the game going.
“So it is a multiplicity of factors that will contribute to improve the not too good performance so far as our football is concerned,” Damba concluded.
