The ongoing works to give Karela United’s CAM Park a huge facelift is all but complete with on site workers putting finishing touches to the project.
The project, estimated at cost of $1.8million and being financed by the Ghana National Petroleum Commission (GNPC) started in November last year and works have progressed steadily.
Club sources tell footballmadeinghana.com that all architectural work has been done with seating areas duly demarcated and seats installed.
Floodlights have also been fixed while the under pipe works and cabling have also been completed.
What is currently underway is the laying of articial turf which started today, Thursday April 30 and is more than 60% complete according to what club sources told FootballMadeinGhana.
Per projections, all works should be completed next week.
HANDING-OVER DATE DICEY
Despite works nearing completion, there is a level of uncertainty regarding when an official handing over ceremony can be held.
This is due to the government directive to ban all social gatherings of more than 25 people as part of measures to curb the rapid spread of the CoronaVirus disease.
The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a major shutdown of most activities worldwide with sports drastically affected.
In Ghana, the current Covid-19 count stands at 2074 positive cases with 212 recoveries and 17 deaths.
Normally a handing-over ceremony for such a project should draw attendance from respective stakeholders including traditional leaders, officials of entities involved and the general public.
For a club like Karela United who are religiously followed in the Nzema area, a handing over ceremony of their home stadium is expected to draw a large crowd.
Unless the auhtorities involved will want to do a low-keyed unveiling ceremony, they will have to wait until the Covid-19 situation is normalized and government restrictions lifted.
However the good news is, the assurance that Karela United will be able to use the CAM Park when football activities resume.
They had a campaign to forget in the suspended season when they adopted the Tarkwa Akoon Park as their home venue.
