Captain of local league side Karela United, Isaac Eghan has slammed the idea of a salary cut amid the CoronaVirus outbreak insisting that contracts must be respected.
The football seasons have been put on hold and during this period of inactivity, it has been suggested that clubs put in place measures to remain financially sound. An aspect of this is the implementation of salary cut and/or wage deferrals.
Clubs across Europe have already started this and there have been suggestions Ghanaian clubs can start emulating this.
However, there has been fierce opposition from a section of the football fraternity and Karela United goalkeeper and Captain Isaac Eghan is the latest to add his voices to calls against salary cuts.
In an interview with local radio station West FM, he said “I’m not ready to accept any pay cut from my management, it’s a contract let’s respect it because I receive a small salary and I can’t compare my salary to that of European players who have personal sponsorship”.
The debate to implement salary cuts in Ghana lingers as the Ghana Football Association finds put ways to support clubs.
