Asante Kotoko welcome Elmina Sharks to the Accra Sports Stadium on Match Week 14.
The Porcupine Warriors are seriously in contention for the league title and after seeing their main rivals in the race win on Wednesday, Maxwell Konadu’s side will be overly eager to get a win over their opponents.
In Elmina Sharks, Kotoko face a team that is in top form and capable of turning the tables upside down.
Yaw Acheampong’s side has managed to turn their season around after a poor start and have now gone on to record some impressive results.
Sharks are undefeated in their last 5 league games, winning 4 and drawing 1. Notable among this streak of impressiveness is a win against Medeama SC away at Tarkwa. They remain the only team to leave the Akoon Park unscathed after facing the current league leaders.
Shark’s remarkable run has seen them amass 13 points out of a possible 15 and they are the league’s top form team at the moment.
One player who has been integral in this glory moment is Benjamin Boateng. The attacker has contributed to around 50% of goals scored during this rich spell and will be keen to add on to that when they face Kotoko on Thursday evening.
Asante Kotoko themselves are on some kind of rennaissance after receiving a dress down by Executive Chairman Kwame Kyei.
The above was influenced by a string of poor results characterised by below par performances.
Since that time, Kotoko have recorded back to back wins; beating Bechem United and Karela United.
They will be eager to add Elmina Sharks to that list but definitely Coach Maxwell Konadu will know their opponents won’t make things easy for them.
Kotoko certainly needs to dig deep to get something out of this game or they risk allowing Sharks to be their party pooper.
Team News:
Coach Maxwell Konadu has brought back outcast Sogne Yacouba into the team.
The Burkinabe who had been relegated from the squad sheet for games due to a lingering contractual dispute was offered some minutes of action in the past game against Karela.
Its likely he will get more minutes against Sharks. Once again, Kwame Baah is expected to start in post for the Porcupine Warriors.
