President Nana Akufo-Addo has refused to share his opinion regarding the future of Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars Coach.
Speaking during his Meet the Press at the Jubilee House on Friday afternoon, the President said he is convinced that the new FA administration as well as the Sports Minister will make the right decision for Ghana in due time.
There has been constant debate surrounding the future of the 59 year old manager following the country’s abysmal performance at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Appiah has been under intense criticism after guiding the team to its worst performance at the continental showpiece since 2006.
The Black Stars exited the tournament at the round of 16 stage after losing 5-4 on penalties to Tunisia.
However, two wins out of two in the opening games of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers could potentially set Kwesi Appiah on the road to redemption.
His contract with the national team is due to expire an the end of this month.
Asked by Patrick Osei Agyemang, affectionately called Countryman Songo if he wants the Black Stars coach to stay beyond this year, the president said:
“I think this is a difficult question. If I says ‘yes’, then it will create something else and if I say ‘no’, then there is no way they (the FA, Ministry) can act otherwise. So, I will stay away from such matters,” the president added.
