With 24 days more to go for the 2019 Nations Cup, soccerladuma.co.za previews the stadiums that will host the tournament in Egypt.
The continental showpiece will be the first edition with 24 teams taking part, and will be played out in six stadiums, according to the Egypt Football Association (EFA).
Among the six venues is the Cairo International Stadium, which can hold up to 75 000 spectators, as well as the controversial Port Said Stadium.
The latter achieved infamy in 2012, when more than 70 people sadly passed away in Egypt’s worst stadium tragedy after a riot broke out during a league game between Al Masry and Al Ahly. However, the stadium was subsequently renovated and the home team was only allowed to return in 2018.
The Air Force Stadium replaced the Al Salam Stadium, which, at times, hosts Al Ahly matches and was on the original list, in order to have enough time to prepare for the tournament because the Egyptian top flight only finishes close to 21 June, when the showpiece kicks off.
The other three stadiums are the Ismailia Stadium, the Suez Sport Stadium and the Alexandria Stadium, but the EFA is yet to confirm which stadium will hosts the semi-finals and final.
Below is a gallery of all the stadiums;
Port Said Stadium (capacity: 17 988)
Ismailia Stadium (capacity: 18 500)
Alexandria Stadium (capacity: 22 000)
Suez Sport Stadium (capacity: 27 000)
Air Force Stadium (capacity: 30 000)
Cairo International Stadium (capacity: 74 100)
