Another bribery scandal has hit the NC Special Competition, but this time, the alleged referee demanded a small amount of money plus a beautiful woman.
Coach of Tier II side Unity FC, Nana Asare Bediako, has slapped a damning allegation against class one referee Emmanuel Eshun after his side draw 1-1 with Nkoranza Warriors.
According to the coach, the referee who officiated the game has an unfinished business with his club reason he cheated his team in the game against the Nkoranza based club.
Coach Asare told Sikka FM in Kumasi on Friday morning that referee Emmanuel Eshun demanded ¢2,000 plus a beautiful woman before their game against Young Apostles during the truncated Division One League last season.
The disgruntled coach added that the management of the club refused him, reason he decided to cheat them in their game yesterday against Nkoranza Warriors last Thursday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“I’m not surprised referee Emmanuel Eshun decided to back our opponent yesterday,” he said
“He demanded ₵2,000 and a beautiful woman from us last season when we played Young Apostles; a demand we refused to meet,” he revealed.
This scandalous revelation follows a previous revelation by retired referee Kakabo that Asante Kotoko paid ₵8000 to referees to aid them beat AshGold on Sunday, a move he facilitated.
Despite the Anas Exposé revealing referees dishonesty in accepting bribes to influence matches, with over 70 referees having their licenses revoked, the canker doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
With a Normalization Committee in charge of Ghana football now, it’s a test case for them to handle these allegations as they show their level of competence in fighting the menace.
