Former Ghana defender Sam Johnson believes local players should be given the chance to represent the nation at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Although the Premier League remains suspended, the NC Special competition has offered teams and players a way back to action and possibly, as it now appears, a place in the Black Stars for the Afcon in June/July.
Coach Kwesi Appiah has shown his interest in handing local players opportunities, after inviting Kotoko trio Felix Annan, Kwame Bonsu and Amos Frimpong call ups in the last international assignments.
The Black Stars boss also recently revealed players plying their trade domestically have up to May to prove themselves worthy of being picked for the continental event.
Something that will delight Sam Johnson;
“I will be happy if some of the local players get selected for the 2019 AFCON” the Hearts of Oak legend said in an interview with Asempa FM.
“We need to give coach Kwasi Appiah all the necessary support as well as the players. The players need the support of the entire nation to win the AFCON. We have good players so let’s support them,because they are what we have at the moment”
Ghana have been drawn in Group F alongside Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.
