Asante Kotoko suffered a 2-1 defeat to ZESCO United in their final Group C game at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Stephen Nyarko’s second half strike was cancelled by two quick goals from Jesse Were and Kondwani Mtonga to give the Ndola based side the win.
Despite the results, both sides failed to make it to the quarter finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Asante Kotoko SC
Felix Annan (GK) – ( 6/10): Had to deal with a lot of long range shots. Can’t be blamed for any of the two goals they conceded.
Amos Frimpong – (4 /10): Good cross earlier in the game for Teguy, but was reduced to do a lot of defensive duties. Struggled to deal with Kambole.
Wahab Adams – ( 5 /10): Average performance from the center back. Had to deal with a clearances. Could have complimented Badu well to prevent the goals.
Agyemang Badu – (5/10): Poor organization at the back and couple of poor marking led his team down. Failed to command his teammates at the back. Could have done better to prevent the goals.
Habib Mohammed – (4 /10): Not too good a debut for the young midfielder. Never settled in the game. Committed a lot of mistakes in midfield. Brought off for Nyarko.
Daniel Darkwah – (6 /10): Decent game by the former Aduana Stars player. Didn’t offer much on the attack. Nearly scored straight from a corner kick. Could have prevented the cross that led to ZESCO’s equalizer.
Umar Bashiru – (6/10): Had freedom to roam because of the presence of Habib Mohammed. Got all his passes on point but struggled on one on one battle.
Kwame Bonsu – ( 5/10): Struggled to get himself in the game in the first half. Improved in the second half. But was no where near his level.
Emmanuel Gyamfi – (7 /10) the brightest spot in the Kotoko team. Always a thorn in the flesh of the opponent. Assisted Stephen Nyarko with a low cross.
Abdul Fatawu Safiu – ( 4 /10) – Was nowhere to be found in the first half. Struggled to get himself in the game. Made no impact in the game. Brought off for Obed Owusu in the 68th minutes.
Dany Zabo Teguy (6 /10): Good start by the striker, showed a lot of promise in the early stage of the game. Was twice denied by Banda. Faded as the game went on.
Substitute
Stephen Nyarko – (5 /10): Scored with his first touch to put his team in the lead. Didn’t add anything after his goal.
Obed Owusu – (3/10): Came on for the unimpressive Fatawu. Struggled to settle in the game and made no impact.
Frederick Boateng – (2/10): Brought on for Teguy. Made no impact in the game as his team exit the tournament.
ZESCO United
Jacob Banda (GK) – (7 /10): Five good saves in the game. Denied Zabo twice in the first half. Showed quick reflex to put away Gyamfi’s curler twice. Can’t be blamed for Kotoko’s goal.
Marcel Kalonda – ( 6/10): Decent game by Kalonda. Made a lot of surging runs on the right side. Kept Fatawu at bay.
Clement Mwape – ( 7/10): Was very confident at the back. Kept his composure very well.
David Odhiambo – ( 6/10) Great game by the attacker. Very good on the ball. Contributed a lot in the attack. Assisted the first goal with a fine crossing.
Mwila Phiri – ( 7 /10) Good game by Phiri. Was everywhere on the pitch. Dominated the midfield battle and kept his team on top .
Kondwani Mtonga – (7/10) Decent game by Mtonga. Provided a strong shield for the center back. Won the ball a lot in the middle. And scored the winner.
Quadri Aladeokun (4/10) Tried his luck many times by shooting from the back. Very decent outing. Was always comfortable on the ball. But was strangely substituted before the break.
Jesse Jackson Were – (8/10)- Was left umarked and calmly slotted the ball in the net to draw his team level. He tormented Amos Frimpong.
John Ching’andu – ( 7/10) Always a threat on the right side of the attack. Came close to break the deadlocks in the first half.
Lazarous Kambole – ( 7/10) – Great game by Kambole. Dictated the pace of the game with some good decisions making.
Enoch Sabumukawa – (7/10) – was the key man for ZESCO in the middle. Was always dangerous with the ball. Missed the target twice after two long range effort.
Substitute
Mwelwa Mwape – (5/10) Impressive cameo by Mwape. Was technically good and added some bite in his attack.
Misheck Chaila – (4/10) came on for Enock Sabumukama to defend his team’s lead. Made sure they weren’t conceding another goal.
Osmanu Rahim- (3 /10) Was introduced late in the game for Jesse Were. Didn’t make any impact in the game.
