Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has revealed he will end his contract with Panathinakos over their inability to pay his wages.

The 26-year-old joined the Greek giants just last summer on a three-year deal.

He however played out the final half of last season on loan at Spanish club Granada.

Wakaso is to return to his mother club now that his loan agreement with Granada has ended.

But the Ghana international has confirmed he will not return to the Athens-based club due to their financial problems.

“Before I joined them [Panathinaikos],I spoke to Mike [Michael Essien] who told be the club was having some financial problems,” Wakaso told FootballMadeInGhana.com.

“But the club officials assured me I will have all what is due me paid and that is why I signed for them.

“Initially things were ok until they started skipping payment of my salary and then I had to start paying my own rent when it was the club that was supposed to pay.

“It was becoming too much and that is why I had to leave on loan and I don’t think I will go back.

“The contract will be terminated and I will be joining a new club soon.”

Wakaso arrived at Panathinakos from Rubin Kazan where the Ghanaian was being paid hefty amounts in wages.

His contract with the Greens was to run out in 2019.
