A brace by WAFA striker Daniel Agbloe Lomotey helped Ghana to secure a 2-0 win over Burkina Faso in the second Group B game of the 2019 U20 AFCON in Niger.
Ghana started the game brightly but lacked the needed fire upfront despite seizing the midfield where Mohammed Kudus, Sabit Abdulai and Emmanuel Kumah were lively.
The first real chance of the game fell to Ghana winger Sadiq Ibrahim after the half hour mark but after leaving his marker for dead on the right, he shot straight into the side net despite having three of his colleagues inside the penalty waiting for a cross.
Against the run of play, Ghana scored the first goal in the 42nd through Daniel Lomotey who capitalized on a defensive blunder by Kabore to lob the ballĀ into the roof of the net with the opposing keeper well beaten.
The first half ended with ball possession even though Ghana was up by one goal to nothing.
Ghana came into the second half strongly and dictated the pace of the game right from the blast of the whistle.
Both Enock Ata Agyei and Emmanuel Kumar came close to score in the first fifteen minutes of the first half with long range strikes but all missed target.
Abdulai Sabit also tried a ferocious effort from 35 yards which missed target before finally Lomotey made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute. The striker again benefited from poor anticipation on the part of Kabore as he again lobbed the ball past the Burkina Faso goalkeeper into the yawning net.
The Young Stallions turned the heat on the Black Satellites with Goalkeeper Manaf Nurudeen stopping goal-bound strikes from Cheick, Tabsoba and substitute Hugo Passega.
Ghana coach Jimmy Cobblah brough on Emmaniel Toku for Sadiq Ibrahim and later Prosper Ahiable for Mohammed Kudus and Michael Baidoo for Ata Agyei as Ghana held on to the 2-0.
The Satellites will face Senegal on Tuesday though coach Jimmy Cobblah believes CAF are not being fair to his side.
“I don’t think is fair. It’s not done anywhere, we played a game today and we are supposed to play Senegal just 24 hours later. That’s unfair,” Connlah lamented in the post match interview.
