English Premier League
After helping Newcastle United defeat champions Manchester City last Tuesday , Christian Atsu continued to grace the starting team sheet of Rafa Benitez but this time his side were on the losing end as Tottenham Hotspurs won 1-0. Atsu was replaced in the 82nd minute by Kennedy. The Ghana winger is still without a goal or an assist in over 1000 minutes of football played this season for the Premier League side.
Meanwhile it was all good news at Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace defeated Fulham by 2-0 as Jeffrey Schlupp and Jordan Ayew enjoyed excelled. Schlupp played 90 minutes and actually scored his side’s second to take his seasonal tally of goals to 3 in the Premier League but Jordan left the pitch in the 82nd to be replaced by new Palace recruit Michy Batshuayi.
Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey continue to recover from a horrific injured he suffered last October.
Spanish La Liga
In Spain Mubarak Wakaso went head to head with Real Madrid on Sunday night on the occasion of Week 22 of the La Liga season but his team, Deportivo Alaves who are placed respectably at 7th on the standings, were humbled 3-0 and the tough-tackling midfielder, as usual, was booked in the 74th for a foul committed. He lasted the full duration of the game at the Santiago Bernebeu stadium but left as a loser.
However Wakaso’s compatriot Patrick Twumasi was not in the Alaves squad at all.
Restricted to just 10 matches season long at Levante, Raphael Dwamena came off the bench to play the last 12 minutes in the Levante 0 Getafe 0 game on Saturday but there was no Emmanuel Boateng in action for Paco Lopez’s team.
Elsewhere Atletico Madrid were shocked by Real Betis who clinched a 1-0 win at home against the team of Diego Simeone on Sunday and Thomas Partey was well involved. The Ghana international lasted 90 minutes but could not prevent the moral-sapping defeat. Now there are just two points that separate second-placed Atletico and Real Madrid who are third on the standing on 42 points.
Italian Serie A
Kwadwo Asamoah watched from the bench as his Inter Milan side shockingly lost 1-0 at home to Bologna as manager Luciano Spalletti preferred Dalbert to the former Juventus player who is the regular holder of the left back position. There are rumors that the manager could be sacked. Note that Godfred Donsah was unused substitute for the triumphant visitors as he recovers from a fibula injury suffered during pre-season.
In the Empoli 2 Chievo 2 game on Saturday, Black Stars defensive midfielder Afriyie Acquah watched the whole game from the bench of the home side.
Alfred Duncan realized his 15th appearance in the Serie A this season as he helped Sassuolo to pick a valuable point at Genoa in a game that ended 1-1. The talented midfielder was however booked.
Former Berekum Chelsea defender Nicholas Opoku did not participate once again as his team Udinese drew 1-1 at home to Fiorentina.
In the Frosinone – Lazio game tonight, attention will be on Rahman Chipsah, ever present in the Frosinone midfield having racked up 1, 932 minutes of football this season.
German Bundesliga
Things are not going on well for Kassim Nuhu at Hoffenheim. The Ghana defender was missing in action once again over the Bundesliga weekend as his club drew 1-1 against Fortuna Dusseldorf and the same applies to Abass Issah at Mainz 05.
FrenchLigue 1
It was Match-day 23 in the French Ligue 1 and Black Stars striker Majeed Waris lasted the full duration scoring the goal for his team, Nantes, in their 1-1 draw against Saint Etienne last Wednesday. It was the 5th consecutive start for the on-loan Porto forward who has now scored 5 goals in 24 games this season across two competitions. Waris was on the Nantes starting team once again on Sunday as they imposed a 1-0 away victory over Sannois in the Coupe de France but the petit striker did not score.
