Cameroon coach Joseph Ndoko admits he is saddened by his team’s defeat to Nigeria in the 2018 AWCON semi final match played on Tuesday.
The Indomitable Lions were unlucky to go down 4-2 in the penalty shootouts against Nigeria despite having dominated the game in regulation and extra time.
Cameroon were the overwhelming favourites to win the tournament due to their impressive style of play.
But the defendng champions managed to use the tons of experience under their belt to scale through and are now in with a chance of winning their ninth African title.
Cameroon coach Joseph Ndoko is now left at a loss as to how to console his players after the defeat on Tuesday.
“It is a very difficult result for us,” he said.
“We played our best but in the end it wasn’t enough.
“I know my girls will be crying a lot this evening and I will cry with them too.”
Cameroon will now have to battle out for bronze against either South Africa or Mali who play in the other semi final fixture.
The winner of the third-place match will pick up the final qualification slot for the FIFA World Cup.
