Asante Kotoko is one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs and one of Africa’s greatest and the opportunity to coach the club is a dream for many coaches as the former Porcupine Warrior reveals his ambition to be Kotoko manager in the future.
Richard Manu, 44, joined Asante Kotoko from German club Halberg Brebach in 2007 and formed part of the talented squad of Bashiru Hayford in the 2007/08 season that saw the Kumasi-based side lift the league title and reached the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
“It will definitely happen. It will happen. I don’t even know when but until I leave this world I will coach Kotoko. It will happen.I’m sure about that.” Richard Manu told Kumasi-based Silver 98.3 FM in an exclusive interview from his Germany base.
“My family is all about Kotoko. We are all Kotoko fans. Growing up it is Kotoko that I supported. I played for the club and now my ambition is to coach the club.” Manu added.
The former center back was just awarded a UEFA “B” licence certificate after a successful training course and now wants to acquire the CAF licence “A” certificate.
“My next thing to do is to get the CAF license A. I’m done with the UEFA “B” course now” he revealed to Silver 98.3 FM.
Born in Ghana, Manu moved from Eimsbütteler TV to Borussia Neunkirchen in the 96–97 season.
In 2003, he left the club to join SG Eintracht Bad Kreuznach. A year later, he signed with TuRu 1880 Düsseldorf before in 2006, he moved to SC Halberg Brebach (German Third division).
It is from Brebach that he joined Asante Kotoko in October 2007 after training with the club during its training tour in Germany.
His good performances earned him a call up to the Black Stars for the game versus Mexico on March 26, 2008
Manu , affectionately known as “90-90” in Ghana , is the current assistant coach of premier league side Karela United and was on the technical bench when the Anyinase-based side destroyed Kotoko by 3-1 in a Ghana premier league fixture at the Crosby Awuah park.
