Main captain Asamoah Gyan and assistant skipper Andre Ayew were both not invited for the Kenya game on Saturday.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey captained the Black Stars in the friendly games against Japan and Iceland in June this year -in the absence of Gyan and Andre – but the return of Kwadwo Asamoah to the national selection has has ignited another debate as to who should captain the Black stars in their game against Kenya on Saturday.
Should it be Kwadwo Asamoah who is making his international comeback since the 2014 World Cup ?
Asamoah despite his long term absence from the team is the longest serving member in the current squad. He made his debut for Ghana in the CAN 2008 Tournament and has a lot of experience under his belt having played at the highest level for close to a decade.
Many have predicted him to get the nod ahead of Thomas Partey on Saturday but that will again depend on whether the Inter Milan left back is selected to start after limping out of training in Addis Ababa raising concerns about his full fitness.
However there are others who want Kwesi Appiah to keep the peace and tranquility in the Black Stars by maintaining Partey as the captain of the side on Saturday. After all it was Thomas that assumed the responsibility in the last two games and he is playing well too.
Harrison Afful is the other potential captain on Saturday.
Meanwhile assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko is quoted to have told Fox Fm that the captain decision ahead of tomorrow’s game remains undecided.
“We have not decided on who will captain the team. That decision will be taken this evening after training” the former Dortmund player said.
What qualities should a captain possess?
A captain’s job requires mental strength, maturity and experience. A skipper must be a leader both on and off the pitch. It’s their role to rally teammates, dish out instructions and give dressing room pep talks.
A skipper should put his team first. A captain must become the team’s mouthpiece. They have to say the correct things to alleviate the pressure.
Who do you think posses all these capabilities in the current squad to lead Ghana when they come out of the tunnel at the Moin International Sports center on Saturday?
