Head coach of Ghana Black stars Kwesi Appiah has advised the new management of Asante Kotoko to move their attention from local-based players to recruiting foreign players.
Kwesi Appiah is preparing his team to play against Kenya on Saturday in an AFCON qualifier but Appiah still follows his former club.
Kwesi Appiah who was speaking with Micheal Ashley Darko of Angel FM stated that, most of the local clubs are now reluctant to sell their best players to Kotoko unlike over the years when Kotoko and Hearts of Oak sign best players from other rival clubs.
” I think the biggest problem the management will face is signing players and player exodus. Unlike recent years when Kotoko and Hearts sign best players from the rest of clubs. Nowadays the clubs are not selling to them anymore because they know they can sell their players abroad and get a huge amount. Since I was appointed as the head coach of the national team I have call about 12-13 local players, but as we speak only one is there all of them have left abroad.” the Black Stars manager said.
” What the management should do now is to go outside and sign players for the club. They shouldn’t rely more on the local players”
Asked if he it is his dream of coaching the club in future having played for Asante Kotoko in the 80s,, Kwesi Appiah answered:
” As a coach you can’t rule out anything, unlike other coaches who set dreams and target, for me I wait for the opportunity to come before I think about it. So I can’t say anything about it for now” he added.
Kwesi Appiah was part of the Kotoko team that won the 1983 Africa Cup of Champions Cup.
