The Government of Ghana (GoG) has been caught in a massive lie in their response to FIFA over the threat to ban Ghana from all football activities.
The world football governing body has issued an ultimatum to the state to withdraw its court case seeking to liquidate the GFA by August 27.
FIFA in its letter to the state says it will ‘immediately’ place a suspension on Ghana if their ultimatum is not heeded to at 10am (local time) on the deadline day.
But GoG in its official response to the ultimatum peddled an inaccuracy by claiming it is the Ghana FA that has virtually brought football activities in Ghana to a halt.
“The GFA itself suspended all football activities in Ghana,” the relevant portion of the state’s response to FIFA read.
It will however be recalled that the Ghana FA in the immediate aftermath of the Anas expose had planned to carry out with its weekend activities by organizing MTN FA Cup Round of 32 and the Sanford Women’s FA Cup Round of 16 matches.
This plan of the GFA had to be abandoned after a release from government on June 7, 2018 stating its intention of dissolving the GFA.
Prior to the release, Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah had granted an interview to Joy FM declaring all operations of the GFA including an international friendly between Ghana and Iceland as ‘suspended’.
It is therefore shocking to note in Government’s response to FIFA an impression seeking to attribute the suspension of football activities in Ghana to the Ghana FA.
Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah is expected to travel to Zurich later this week to seek audience with top officials of FIFA in finding ways to prevent the ban.
Meanwhile clubs in Ghana have resolved to write officially to seek audience with President Akufo Addo in another attempt to prevent the ban which will be effective on August 27 if government does not renege on its court case seeking to liquidate the GFA.
