CAF Champions League : Medeama secure group stage qualification despite defeat to Horoya

Ghanaian champions, Medeama SC are through the group stage of the CAF Champions League despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Horoya AC in Guinea on Saturday.

Medeama came to the game with a 3-1 win from the first leg.

The host came back from a goal down to beat Medeama in the second leg of the final phase of the preliminary round in Guinea on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

Medeama took the lead through Jonathan Sowuah from the penalty spot after he was penalized  in the penalty box.

Horoya responded shortly afterward through Mandela Ocansey.

After the break, Horoya added a second goal in the 76th minute.

Horoya huffed and puffed for the third but a resolute Medeama defense denied them on the day. e

Medeama despite the defeat secured a ticket to the group stage of the CAF Champions League for the very first time in the club’s history.

The Ghanaian side booked a spot in the group stage of the CAF Champions League with 4-3 aggregate score-line.
