Match Report : RTU 1-0 Hearts – Owusu Afriyie’s late header stun Phobia in season opener
Real Tamale United opened their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season with a hard-fought win against Hearts of Oak in the season opener.
A late header from Owusu Afriyie handed RTU opening day victory at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
Hearts coach Martin Koopman handed start to seven debutants on the day with Eric Esso, Richard Atta, Denis Korsah and Otanga been the old players in the starting line-up.
RTU despite dominating the first half failed to find the back of the net before the break.
The second half was dominated by Hearts of Oak with Salifu Ibrahim and Ampadu coming close.
RTU finally got the break through in added time after Owusu Afriyie headed home a corner to find the back of the net.
The host held on to their lead to pick their first win of the season.
