Asante Kotoko goalie Asare explains rivalry with teammate Ibrahim Danlad

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper has provide clarity on his relationship with teammate Ibrahim Danlad amid reports of a fierce rivalry between the two.

Asare joined the Porcupine Warriors last season, at a time Ibrahim Danlad was the established first choice goalkeeper.

Along the line, the latter lost his position to the former in what was a difficult season for the club.

The development led to several reports of an emerging rift between the two, something Frederick Asare has denied.

According to the former Accra Lions shots topper, he has a good relationship with Danlad and believes he’s a great teammate.

“When it comes to Danlad, he’s a friend. He’s not just a football mate. We’ve been friends since Airtel Rising Stars games way back in 2014. We went to the U-17 and U-20 national teams together…for the All Africa Games, Africa Cup and WAFU tournaments,” Asare told the club’s YouTube channel.

“So when I came he’s one of the people who at training grounds and even in the house he calls me to talk to me. In a way he has been helping me a lot. He even called me from his national team camp to motivate me. So when he returned and I was starting at his expense, it didn’t cause any harm. People were trying to do things that will jeopardize our relationship but it never worked because of how we were. He’s one of the greatest guys in the team,” he added.

Both players are currently in camp at Beposo as Asante Kotoko prepares for the new season under new coach Prosper Narteh-Ogum.
