U23 AFC0N 2023: Ibrahim Tanko eyes Olympic qualification ahead of group opener

Ghana u23 manager Ibrahim Anyars Tanko is optimistic his side will secure a ticket for the 2024 Olympic Games to be staged in France ahead of the tournament opener in the 2023 Afcon U-23 tournament.

Ghana will take on Congo on Sunday afternoon in the second game of the group after Morocco beat Guinea 2-1 in the group opener.

Tanko is motivated to lead his outstanding team toward gaining their place at the renowned Olympic Games with goals that go beyond simply winning the trophy.

At Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium on Sunday, Ghana’s U23 AFCON campaign will get underway against Congo.

The second Group matchup between Ghana and the competition’s hosts, Morocco, will take place at the same venue on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, before the final round of Group fixtures against Guinea at the Grand Stade de Tangier.

“Our target is to qualify to the Olympic Games but of of course there is a trophy at stake so we want to win it too,” he said.

“Our preparations have been good. We started in Ghana and went to Egypt. Our objective is to qualify and to win the ultimate”, Coach Tanko said at the pre-match conference on Saturday, June 24 2023,”

“I was at the last edition of this competition in Egypt so i have an idea how its going to be. All the teams deserve to be here and I think it’s going to be a very good tournament,”
