Upper West Region Middle League: Free Scoring Wa Power SC seal DOL Qualifications In 50-goal feast, edges out Golden FC in thrilling decider

Wa Power SC sealed a placed in the 2023/24 Access Bank Division One League with a remarkable 50-goal campaign that saw them recording 16 wins and 3 draws in their unbeaten 19 league matches.

The Duori-based side, led by Abdul Aziz Kandumah, scored a dramatic late winner through the lethal Mohammed Mabrouk Costa to deny Golden FC in a thrilling 2-1 decider at the Wa Malik Jabir Park on Saturday June 17,2023.

Having missed out on the much awaited qualifications in the last 3 seasons, Wa Power SC kicked off their season with a 2-0 win against Golden FC before going to record 10 more wins in the 14 group stage matches.

The determined champions only failed to score against Kpongu Tanga in the opening 14 games despite racking home 38 goals in the process.

In the process, the Duori-based side allowed 8 goals in the group stages thanks to the defensive solidity of the team.

At the middle league stages, Kandumah John and his boys recorded 100 percent win to take their season tally to 50 goals from 19 attempts.

An opening strike from Abdul Karim Adamu Onga set the Wa Stadium alight only for Ibrahim Gafaru to pull parity very late into the final game.

Mohammed Mabrouk Costa then lit up the Malik Jabir Park with a 95th minute belter to deflate the hopes of the Golden boys from Serekpere.

The eventual 2-1 win ensured that Abdul Aziz Kandumah John sealed his second personal qualifications to the Access Bank Division One League having led Wa Suntaa SC to the second tier in 2017/18.

Alongside Wa Power SC, Golden FC, Hilla Stars and Sore Nante (Wa FC) all sealed places in the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.
