BREAKING!! Medeama SC win first-ever Ghana Premier League trophy

The Yellow and Mauve side has won the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League tittle after grabbing 60 points, ending the 46-year jinx a club from the Western region won the title.

Medeama lifted their first-ever Premier League trophy following a 3-0 win over Tamale City at the T&A park.

Kwadwo Amoako took the lead for the Premier League champions on the 6th minute before Jonathan Sowah hits a brace to make it three for Medeama.

Following the 3-0 defeat at the Akoon Park, Tamale City have suffered relegation from the Ghanaian top-flight league after just a season. The Cityzens finished at 16th position with 42 points after match-week 34.

Medeama SC had an impressive campaign in the Ghana Premier League winning 18 games, drawing six and tasting 10 defeats.

The last time a club from the west won the league was in 1977, when Sekondi Hasaacas claimed their inaugural title. Since then, the region has struggled to produce a champion.

Sekondi Eleven Wise became the first club to win the region’s first trophy in 1960 before Sekondi Hasaacas winning the last trophy for the region in 1977.

Alas, the two Sekondi based clubs are currently playing in the third-tier league of Ghana Football after suffering relegation few years ago.
