Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has emphatically stated the association will not beg players to play for the Black Stars.
Mr. Asante Twum’s comments come on the heels of calls from the general public to the GFA to stop pursuing Southampton defender Salisu Mohammed who has opted against playing for the national team.
Salisu has been pursued five times by the GFA according to the GFA spokesperson by all efforts have yielded no results.
Players such as Callum Hudson Odoi & Tarique Lamptey have also been pursued in the past but the FA’s efforts haven’t yielded any result.
In the aftermath of Ghana’s qualification to the World Cup and many asking whether the likes of Salisu, Lamptey & Hudson Odoi will feature at the tournament, Mr. Asante Twum disclosed the FA will only pursue players who are committed to the nation.
“Whoever is eligible to play for Ghana will be given the opportunity. I don’t think we need to beg players to play or represent the country at the international level.” Mr. Asante Twum told GHOne TV.
“We have given many players the chance and it dates back to Kim Grant, Tony Baffoe, and Otto Addo who were not all born in Ghana. So whoever is willing will be given the opportunity.” He added.
Ghana will discover their opponents at the World Cup after the Group stage draw for the 2022 World Cup is conducted on Friday, 1st April, 2022.
