Accra Great Olympics beat Elmina Sharks by a lone goal in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
The home team needed a goal in stoppage time to snatch all three points at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Oly came into Matchday 17 in high spirits following their win over city rivals Hearts of Oak in the Mantse derby last week.
But relegation-threatened Elmina Sharks proved a tough nut to crack as they remained resolute in defense and almost came away with a point.
However, Daniel Adjetey struck in the 90th minute to ensure Olympics ended the first round on a high.
Olympics are now 3rd on the league standings with 28 points, eight points behind leaders Asante Kotoko.
Meanwhile Sharks remain rooted bottom of the pile and must improve in the second round to avoid being relegated at the end of the season.
